“Why are my comments not approved?”
If you’re wondering about this, please read on.
The fact of the matter is that, if you have just submitted a comment, the chances of me manning the desk waiting for new comments 24-7 and approving your comment right away are slim to none. Please be patient and allow some time for approval!
However, there are several reasons comments are not approved:
- Personal attacks on others. I am all for free speech, but even in society, criticisms that are intended to defame, to be rude or to cause harm to others are condemned. For that reason, I cannot approve of such comments.
- Spam or spammy comments. Comments that add no value to the discussion, I will most likely disapprove of. For instance, on a blog post that talks about tenses in Cantonese (or the lack thereof), and a comment appears talking about a bipartisan commission, I will not approve of the comment. A comment that links out to a store selling beauty products on the same article, I will probably disapprove of too.
- Profanity. We all swear at times. That’s fine. But please try to keep the profanity within reason, or I will remove the comment.
That said, I welcome all criticisms of this site or of me, and I love hearing ideas, discussions and questions.
However, please understand that I may not be able to reply to every comment. That doesn’t mean I don’t look at them, it simply means that I either don’t have the time to do so, or simply, I don’t have anything useful to add to the discussion.
